Something is rewriting the people she knows.
When people she knows begin acting like distorted versions of themselves, a devoted teacher must uncover what is rewriting their identities before it spreads beyond the school and consumes the town.
High school teacher Leslie Hawkins knows her students well enough to recognize when ordinary change becomes something more disturbing. Troubled teenagers abruptly become focused overachievers, while others suffer behavioral glitches and violent outbursts. What first appears isolated soon forms a pattern.
As the incidents move beyond Midfield High, Leslie watches familiar traits disappear and personalities shift—including among people closest to her. With the community sliding toward chaos, she must discover who is causing the transformations and stop them before more people lose the freedom to be themselves.
The dramatic engine
The mystery turns identity itself into the threatened territory. Leslie’s strength is attention: she sees the subtle changes others accept, then follows them from the classroom into a widening crisis where personality, agency, and belonging are all at stake.
